Zombies do not speak or listen. They do not participate in caring relationships. They are not connected to a community. Instead, they unhappily stagger about with blank stares focused on fulfilling their own desires. It may seem that many tech-rich classrooms are filled with zombies: silent students wearing headphones and gazing into screens. Fortunately, there is a vaccine for this virus: face-to-face interactions. Teachers vs. Zombies intends to help teachers create learning environments that transform zombies into social, caring, and connected learners through the use of blended learning, restorative circles, and play.
This is my Google for Education Innovator Project. When I applied to the Mountain View 2016 cohort, my project was tilted Facetime vs Screentime (my application is below). It has since evolved into Teachers vs Zombies. I plan to support educators through posts on this site with the help of social media and, of course, face-to-face presentations. Thank you for reading and stay tuned to learn how to prevent zombies from invading your classroom.
